Esquire’s Top 100 Sci-Fi Movies

Starman - stillI DON’T AGREE with a number of entries on this list; Blade Runner at No. 2 is not only NOT one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made, but not even a good movie.  In fact, it is a very weak movie which I would never recommend to anyone, except as a case study in overrated movies.

On the other hand, I do agree that many of the films on the list deserve to be there.  Notably, 2001 is easily the best sci-fi film ever made, and Gattaca is rightly high on the list.  Placing Aliens ahead of the original Alien makes no sense, however — Aliens is probably the worst of the 3 sequels.  And Mad Max is hardly sci-fi.  Overall though it’s not a bad list.  Your thoughts…?
