I don’t normally watch SNL because for the past decade or so it has been — with too few exceptions — just plain not funny. The French-kissing/slobbering family skit is a good example of this: “We can’t think of anything funny, so let’s just shock everyone by grossing them out.” Good going, Lorne. I did like the tunnel of love skits, though — Bill Hader can be hilarious given the right material.
So that’s why I didn’t catch this when it originally aired. I think it could have been played up even more — SNL again doesn’t live up to the full promise of the material — but it’s still cute, and amusing for those familiar with Wes Anderson.
