Film Brief: Fences

For the entire first half of the movie, absolutely nothing happens.  I wish I were exaggerating.  Luckily, it picks up a little in the second half.

One of the big problems with Fences is that it was adapted from a Broadway play, but the moviemakers (Denzel Washington himself directed) didn’t understand that when you do that, you still have to make a movie.  Not just film a play.  But beyond that, the story here is weak.  Good performances provide some worth.  4/10
